Macro Photography – going small

April 28th, 2009

Yesterday my photographic target was HDRi images of buildings and fountains.  Today I decided to go in the opposite direction.  After I finished today’s  product photography session it was time to go small. Really small.  I mean itty bitty small.

My son had done one of those crystal expirments and the resulting formations looked rather cool form what I could see.  The rocks themselves are less than 1 inch in height and no more than 1.25 wide. So seeing them unaided was a bit of a challenge.

The setup for these was pretty simple a Single 500 watt color corrected bulb in a reflector dish was the only light source. The D700 was fitted with a Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens reversed.  It was shot at f22 for 5 seconds.

Please enjoy them!
