About Dave

One of the most difficult things that I do as a photographer is the elevator pitch. You know the theory. A person in business should be able to sell themselves in the time that it takes to ride a elevator. Usually when I hear a elevator pitch especially on an “about” page they sound pretty dry and soulless. So, since this is MY blog , and slightly away from the “company” persona, I want to tell you a bit about me. After all one of my mentors told me a couple hundred times people do business with people not companies. You know, he was right.

I grew up in DC, If you want to call it the hood that would be a pretty fair assessment

My home growing up was right in front of the tree. I attended HS at Archbishop Carroll in DC where I developed a love for photography. As a matter of fact I sold my 1st picture at the age of 14. It was a American Airlines 727 on approach to Washington National Airport (Yes NATIONAL not Reagan).

I had a fairly interesting life up to the present including a wild stint in US Navy, Getting a Degree in Fine Art Photography and working for places like Xerox, IBM, UPS and American Airlines/American Eagle.

I did things like learn to fly, jump off of bridges and sail a boat 1200 miles in the Atlantic. I have seen parts of the world that when I was growing up I never knew existed and met amazing people along the way.

I shot images for ads in New York, photographed several hundred weddings and generally photographed anything that would stand still long enough.

After a frantic few years while my photography bug went into recession and I stopped shooting for a while. But in about 2002 it hit again with a vengeance and I had to basically learn my craft all over again due to this new fangled thing called digital photography. Wow that was a game changer … the passion was seriously back.

Since that time I have transformed my style, I love imagery that is a bit different, but not totally trendy. I believe that my images should be striking but not dated. Because of this I do not go in for a lot of gimmicks. I want my work to be timeless.

That said, I love the allure of black and white and really focus on creating fantastic black and white photography. It is becoming a lost art and I hope to help preserve it.

I have a bit of a unique personality. If you want to call me a Geek I would not argue. I love Jazz (C, T and S) , role playing games (yes I play D&D and Pathfinder) and old time radio. It would not be strange to see me at a Weird Al Concert or studying the work of Frederic Edwin Church.

My photography style is pretty simple. “If it looks good…go with it”. At the end of the day, photography is a ART and while there are “rules”, I look at them merely as suggestions. My goal is to make my client smile and If I have to break a “rule” here and there so be it.

I hope that this gives you a bit of incite about me as a photographer. Feel free to look around. The site is big there is a lot of information here and at the main site.

I really want to be your photographer of choice. Let me show you what I can do .
